In the first quarter, Biontech reported a revenue decline to €118.1 million, compared to €182.8 million in the same period last year. This decline is primarily attributed to falling revenues from Covid-19 vaccines. The reasons for this development are mainly higher development costs that the company has to manage during the current transition phase.

Location Closures and Their Impact

Another aspect that could influence Biontech’s future competitiveness is the announcement to close several locations in Germany, including Idar-Oberstein, Marburg, and Tübingen, by the end of 2027. Operations in Singapore are also expected to cease in the first quarter of 2027.
