Renowned publisher Dieter von Holtzbrinck has decided to divest his stake in the weekly newspaper ‚Die Zeit‘. As of January 1, 2027, the Georg von Holtzbrinck publishing group will assume full control over the ‚Die Zeit‘ publishing group. This was announced in a joint statement from both companies.

With this decision, the entrepreneurial responsibility for ‚Die Zeit‘ is consolidated in one hand, which is to be seen as a strategic move to strengthen competitiveness in a dynamic media market. The contractual arrangement for the consolidation of shares had been planned for some time between the shareholders, indicating long-term planning.

The companies emphasize that ‚Die Zeit‘ will continue to focus on quality and innovation. This continuity in strategic direction is crucial to remain relevant in times of digital transformation and changes in the media landscape.

Dieter von Holtzbrinck and his half-brother Stefan von Holtzbrinck, who leads the publishing group, commented on the successful joint development of ‚Die Zeit‘ over the past decades. They view the now completed consolidation of responsibility as an optimal prerequisite for the next growth phase of the company.

Approval of the transfer by the relevant antitrust authorities is still pending. The financial details of the transaction have been kept confidential. ‚Die Zeit‘ is among the leading premium media brands in Germany, with over 500,000 subscribers, further solidifying its market position.

Dieter von Holtzbrinck, who led the Holtzbrinck Group from 1980 to 2001, has a long history in the media business. After stepping down in 2006, he returned in 2009 and acquired significant stakes in various publications, including ‚Handelsblatt‘ and the ‚Tagesspiegel‘ group. In light of the current changes, full control over ‚Die Zeit‘ could usher in a new era of innovation and growth that is significant for both readers and shareholders.
