In a recent survey conducted by the Ukrainian Institute „Sozis“, former army chief Valerii Saluschnyj was recognized as the most trustworthy politician in the country. This is a remarkable indicator of the perception of political leadership in Ukraine, especially in times of challenges and uncertainties.

Following him are the dismissed Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov and Robert Browdy, the commander of the Ukrainian drone forces. These results could be of interest to investors as they reflect the stability and trust in Ukraine’s leadership, which in turn can impact economic development and the investment climate.

President Zelenskyj Below Expectations

President Volodymyr Zelenskyj, who is internationally regarded as a central figure in Ukraine’s resistance against Russian aggression, only ranked sixth in the survey. This could potentially undermine the perception of his leadership strength and the support for his political agenda. With only 18 percent of respondents expressing full trust in him and 24.5 percent responding „somewhat yes“, a concerning picture emerges for his political future.

The survey was conducted between July 28 and August 2 among 2,000 Ukrainians. The central question was: „To what extent do you trust the following political leaders?“ Saluschnyj achieved the highest scores with 27.8 percent saying „completely“ and 37.1 percent saying „somewhat yes“. These results could also have implications for the upcoming elections, as trust in leadership is crucial for political stability and, consequently, for economic growth.

Impact on the Investment Climate

The perception of trust in political leaders is not only significant for domestic politics but also has far-reaching consequences for the attractiveness of Ukraine as a location for foreign investors. Strong trust in leadership can increase the willingness to invest, while weak trust could deter potential investors.
